A Little Knitting Muse

Every summer it hits me - the knitting malaise. I always think I am going to keep on knitting, and I never do. It's not because I suddenly stop needing the distraction. It's not because I stop loving color, or texture. It's the heat, of course. And the fact that most knitted things - short of lace, which I can't be bothered with because it requires actual pinned-out and proper blocking - are hot. And not in a good way.

But this summer I vow to master the art of the warm-weather knit. I vow to leap that gap between May and October, to find a way to make summer knitting make sense to my wool-centric brain. I see all kinds of people knitting dainty lightweight cardigans and those airy, shruggy things that seem like they'd be great to have at the beach, or in an overly air-conditioned office. Not that I work in one of those, but you know, the movie theaters are sometimes a little chilly.

Last year I managed to make a couple of little cotton/silk bikini and halter tops for friends, so I will try to jump-start my summer knitting mojo by making a bikini for myself. I am thinking of trying that KnitPicks Shine Worsted - currently I'm trying to decide between Bachelor Button with Reef trim and Crocus with Sunflower trim. I'm sure this is all making for incredibly thrilling blog reading. Watch the amazing Lizbon as she....sits on the couch and ponders blue w/ green trim vs. purple w/ yellow. Wow. And for my next number, I shall invent a unified field theory while balancing five spinning plates on my nose. Anything to distract me from the fact that I still have about 14 inches left to knit on the torso of the Orange Friend Hoodie. And I am not sure whether I've yet reached the point where I need to halt and try it on the recipient to see if it's time to decrease for the under-bust darts. It's getting close.
